Operation Wingman

Hubs and I spent the weekend with 34 teens (including six of us adults) at Orange Beach.    Of course, there was the uninvited guest of Tropical Storm Lee, but we didn't let him get in our way too badly.    This week was sponsored by the Metamorphosis ministry which I volunteer with.     Metamorphosis is a support group for teens dealing with addictions whether chemical, physical, sexual, food, relational, or or psychological.    It provides them a safe place to receive support.

The goal for our weekend was to train a group of young Christian people to become "Wingmen".   A wingman is someone who commits to support and disciple a friend during a difficult and sometimes dangerous time of their life.

One of the most amazing parts of the weekend was watching one of our Metamorphosis members come to Christ.      He has been a professing atheist, but through many years of love and acceptance through this ministry he accepted Jesus.     I still cry and get chill bumps when I think of him raising his arms and singing, "Our God is Greater" during our worship time Saturday night.

The official theme song for the weekend was David Crowder's "How He Loves".    It is an incredibly moving song.   The beginning lyrics say...

He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realise just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us so,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all.
